GROVE CLASSICS 2012 Concert Series GRAND FINALE "The AKSEL KOLSTAD SHOW"
Aksel Kolstad has been hailed a "present day Franz Liszt" by Göteborgsposten, a "classical pioneer" by Dagsavisen and "the Quentin Tarintino of classical music" by Fredrikstad blad. Kolstad combines humour and classical piano in a way that the world has never seen. He has played for sold out venues acrross the world with his inspiring The Aksel Kolstad Show at Carnegie Hall in New York and at the Norwegian Opera House. On May 27th, he presents his show at The GROVE!
Internationally acclaimed Norwegian pianist, "The New Norwegian Victor Borge" Aksel Kolstad will be performing works by Gershwin, Rachmaninov, as well as his own inspiring compositions (Kolstad: La Follia Kolstad: Variation on a theme by George Gershwin; Kolstad: Variation on a theme by Sergej Rachmaninov; Kolstad: Surreal interpretations of Grieg; Kolstad: Harlekin-variations; Kolstad: 5 Goldfish-preludes; Kolstad: Deux morceaux fantasque).

A phenomenal ensemble of local musicians including Paul Wright (violin), Sophie Curtis (cello), Pascale Whiting (violin), Kathy Corecig (viola), Emily Green-Armytage (piano), Louise McKay (cello), Duncan Gardiner (guitar), Emily Clements (flute) and Irina Vasileva-Thoo (piano) will perform works by Haydn, Dvorak, Beethoven, Cassadó, Mendelssohn, Schwertberger, Ibert, Marchelie, Cottam & Bizet.
For the grand finale, celebrated Norwegian pianist Aksel Kolstad will present ‘The Aksel Kolstad Show’! Likened to comedic musician Victor Borge, Aksel will be performing works by Gershwin, Rachmaninov, as well as his own inspiring compositions. Aksel Kolstad is coming to Australia for the very first time to join the Grove Classics Concert Series 2012!
